The Board has voted to initiate a new annual award this year called “Families in Racing”.   The award is envisioned as an opportunity for the Club to recognize and honor some of the families that have contributed so much to our local racing history both as competitors and spokespersons for the sport. This idea had been suggested some time ago and it seemed like our 60th year was a great time to kick it off.  In addition to an award presented to the family at the banquet the winner’s family name will be also be added to a Families in Racing trophy, which will be perpetual like the Hall of Fame trophy has been.  As we display it at banquets and special events in the future it will serve as a continuing reminder of the families’ recognition for their dedication and contributions to the sport in the area.  I think we all know of several family surnames that would be deserving of this recognition, having had a continued presence in the sport over several decades where the love of racing has been passed from generation to generation and shared with anyone who might ask for assistance.  We will be soliciting your nominations for this award each year in the future as we do with all our other specialty awards.   The selection for this year’s award was based on nominations from your Board members, who ultimately selected two winners for the inaugural award this year.  I am proud to announce that the first two families to be placed on the Families in Racing trophy will be the Pangrazio and Wylie families.
